BORN TO
CHASE THE SKY

Abhinav is 14 years old and one of the most promising young glider pilots in the United Kingdom. His aviation journey began at the age of 11, when he started formal glider training at the Kent Gliding Club. From his very first flight, flying became far more than a hobby; it became his passion. Training every weekend, he demonstrated remarkable dedication, determination, and maturity, quickly developing the patience, discipline, and decision-making skills that soaring demands.

After years of consistent training and hard work, Abhinav achieved his first solo glider flight at the age of 14, making him one of the youngest solo glider pilots in the United Kingdom and the youngest Indian to achieve this milestone. His achievement was recognised by the Aero Club of India (ACI), a proud moment that acknowledged his commitment and inspired him to aim even higher.

Since going solo, Abhinav has continued to build his experience with 250+ solo and dual flights, refining his skills in advanced soaring techniques, precision aircraft handling, navigation, and flight planning. Every flight has strengthened his confidence, judgement, and understanding of the art and science of soaring.

Now 14, Abhinav is focused on achieving even greater milestones: flying challenging long-distance cross-country routes, representing India and the United Kingdom in international gliding competitions, and ultimately becoming one of the world's leading competitive sailplane pilots. Through perseverance, discipline, and a relentless passion for aviation, he hopes to inspire the next generation of young aviators to dream without limits.

THE MAKING
OF A PILOT

Gliding is one of the most demanding forms of aviation. Without an engine, a pilot must read the atmosphere finding invisible columns of rising air, judging wind patterns, and making constant decisions about energy management and route planning.

Abhinav's training has been intensive and methodical. Starting with basic circuits and stall recovery, he progressed through cross-country flying, navigation, and ultimately to advanced techniques including aerobatics and high-altitude wave soaring.

He trains primarily at Kent Gliding Club, Challock, a British Gliding Association (BGA) affiliated UK premier gliding club.

His instructors describe him as exceptionally focused, with a natural feel for the aircraft and an ability to absorb and apply new skills rapidly.

01

Thermal Soaring

The foundation of cross-country gliding. Abhinav has developed a sharp instinct for finding and exploiting thermals across varied UK terrain and weather conditions.

02

Wave & Ridge Flying

Advanced techniques harnessing mountain wave and ridge lift. Abhinav has reached 12,500 ft in Scottish wave, requiring oxygen and precise energy management.

03

Aerobatics

Loops, chandelles, lazy eights, and spin recovery. Aerobatic training builds confidence, precision, and a deep understanding of the aircraft's envelope.

Ambitions

WHERE
HE'S HEADED

Abhinav's immediate goal is to develop long-distance cross-country sailplane flights across the UK, building distance, navigation and soaring skills well beyond the local flying area, powered entirely by thermals and skill.

Beyond that, his ambitions extend to competitive gliding at national and international level, UK junior records, and ultimately a career in aviation that builds on the extraordinary foundation he is laying right now.

He is also passionate about inspiring other young people to discover gliding — a sport that is accessible, deeply rewarding, and unlike anything else in aviation.

NAVI AERO
SPORTS CLUB

Abhinav doesn't just fly — he builds pathways for others to follow. As Youth Development Lead and co-founder of Navi Aero Sports Club, a youth air-sports organisation based in Chennai, India, he is actively working to give Indian young people the same structured route into aviation that he was fortunate enough to find.

Navi is not just about aeromodelling. It is a full-spectrum air-sports club — covering everything from RC flying and drone racing to gliding, paragliding, and real aviation. The club's mission is to nurture young Indian enthusiasts across every discipline of air sports, giving each member the skills, knowledge, and confidence to pursue their chosen path in the sky.

Abhinav plays an active hands-on role at Navi — mentoring young members, sharing his real-world experience as a solo glider pilot, and helping them understand what it truly takes to progress from curiosity to competence. His own journey is the living proof of what the pathway can produce.

Crucially, Navi is also about global visibility. Indian youth in air sports are often invisible on the world stage. Navi is changing that — connecting its members to international competitions, global networks, and opportunities that put young Indian aviators where they belong: at the forefront of world air sports.
